Topsoe has signed a contract with the EPC contractor Larsen & Toubro Limited, India, for a hydrogen plant.
Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited
increases hydrogen capacity
The unit – a 70,000 MTPA hydrogen plant – is contracted for Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), which is located north of Mangalore, Karnataka, India.
The new plant will significantly increase the refinery’s hydrogen capacity, which is needed to enlarge the crude processing capacity from 12 MMTPA to 15 MMTPA. The entire refinery upgrade project is referred to as “MRPL Phase-III refinery Project”. The hydrogen will be used in a diesel hydrotreater to produce clean fuel.
Scope of supply
Topsoe will supply license, basic engineering, catalyst and supervision services to Larsen & Toubro. Larsen & Toubro will construct the plant.
Successful collaboration
“Topsoe has collaborated with Larsen & Toubro for more than 30 years on projects within the petrochemical industry – in India and elsewhere. We very much look forward to continue our good collaboration on this project and we are happy to assist Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited in increasing the refinery’s hydrogen capacity,” says General Manager Sandra Winter-Madsen, Marketing and Sales, Technology Division.
