Ammonia competencies

Ammonia worldwide

By introduction of new catalysts, new equipment design and extensive process optimisation studies, Topsoe has contributed significantly to the development of efficient ammonia production technology. Today, approximately 50% of new ammonia plants use Topsoe technology.

Topsoe offers clients a flexible and tailor-made solution based on fundamental understanding of the ammonia process, reinforced by decades of industrial experience.

Topsoe develops and manufactures the full range of catalysts required for the production of ammonia.

Leading catalyst supplier

Topsoe is a leading catalyst supplier offering a diverse and full range of catalysts to the ammonia industry. With superior products combining features such as activity, stability, selectivity and strength, Topsoe assists the ammonia industry with custom-made solutions which optimise clients' production while reducing energy consumption.

New ammonia plants and revamps

Topsoe's ammonia technology can be used for the design of new plants or for revamps.

Topsoe designs new line capacities according to client wishes, and we have developed designs for plants with capacities up to 5,000 MTPD for new line capacities. Revamp projects may focus on optimising the plant's energy efficiency or increasing capacity.

Specialised equipment

Topsoe's research programme has contributed extensively to improvements in process technology and development of specialised equipment for critical processing steps. Relevant equipment includes

  • tubular reformers
  • heat exchange reformers
  • secondary reformer burners
  • waste heat boilers
  • ammonia converters
