Topsoe to supply a 225 MTPD Formaldehyde Plant in Russia

20-08-2004

Topsoe has recently been awarded a contract for the supply of license, engineering, catalysts, equipment and a fully programmed control system for a 225 MTPD formaldehyde plant (37% basis) for JSC Acron, Veliky Novgorod, Russian Federation - one of the biggest fertilizer producers in Russia.

This is the third plant contracted within the last 9 months that utilises the Topsoe Formaldehyde SR Process®, which ensures low energy consumption and high production rates in equipment of reduced size compared to traditional plant designs. The plant will be capable of producing aqueous formaldehyde of concentrations up to 55wt%, as well as urea formaldehyde pre-condensate at 85 wt%, using a single absorber.

The formaldehyde unit will be part of JSC Acron’s chemical complex at Veliky Novgorod, where the product will be used primarily for the production of urea-formaldehyde resins.

“This contract marks a new step for our formaldehyde process into the Russian market, where we have been active mainly with our ammonia, hydrogen and environmental technology – not to mention our catalyst products – for many years.” says Peter Sogaard-Andersen, Director of Marketing and Sales, Technology Division of Haldor Topsoe A/S.
