Topsøe has recently been awarded a contract for the supply of license, engineering, catalysts, equipment and fully programmed control system for a formaldehyde plant by Saudi Formaldehyde Chemical Company Limited (SFCCL) at Al-Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This is the fourth plant contracted by Topsøe within the last 10 months and it will be capable of producing aqueous formaldehyde of concentrations up to 55wt%. The initial capacity of 200 MTPD (as 37% formaldehyde) is achieved in a single reactor, but the plant will be fully prepared for a future upgrade to the Topsøe Formaldehyde SR Process®. This upgrade will raise the production capacity by 100% to 400 MTPD by installation of an additional reactor only.

The new unit will be part of SFCCL’s chemical complex at Al-Jubail, which already counts three formaldehyde production lines based on Topsøe technology.
