Producing substitute natural gas - Topsoe signs new contract

05-11-2009
Topsoe has signed a design contract for a new plant for production of substitute natural gas (SNG). Once on stream the plant will produce close to 180,000 Nm³/h of substitute natural gas using Topsoe’s TREMP™ technology.
The plant  will be built and operated by a Chinese client. The substitute natural gas will be sent to the pipeline network in China and used for residential cooking and heating.

Topsoe’s TREMP™ technology

The new SNG plant will use Topsoe’s TREMP™ technology. The technology is a key step in the production of SNG from carbon feedstocks, where the TREMP™ technology ensures an efficient heat recovery in the methanation process.

A unique technology

“We are very pleased with receiving this first large scale order for our TREMP™ technology. We are looking forward to supply the TREMP™ technology and our unique catalysts used in the TREMP™ technology for the first time to the Chinese market. We believe the technology has great potential, as it meets the growing demands for energy efficient operations,” says General Manager Jens Perregaard, New Technologies, Technology Division.

The plant will be the first commercial plant to use Topsoe’s TREMP™ technology which has been developed in-house based on Topsoe’s extensive research and development activities and the company’s profound knowledge of gasification and down stream gasification processes.
