Topsoe publishes first-ever images

21-04-2010
Topsoe researchers have recently published high-resolution electron microscopy images of MoS₂-based nanocatalysts for oil refinery processes.

The images were obtained through a collaboration with the National Center for Electron Microscopy at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

First ever images

The nanocatalyst images are obtained on the world's most powerful transmission electron microscope, the so-called TEAM microscope in Berkeley. It is the first images ever showing the arrangement of industrial-style MoS2 nanocatalysts on an atom-by-atom basis.

The insight may be used to further improve the understanding of the relationship between the catalyst structure and functionality.

Publication

The results were published in Angewandte Chemie Int. - one of the world’s most prestigeous chemical journals - in the article entitlted "Imaging MoS2 Nanocatalysts with Single-Atom Sensitivity " in Angewandte Chemie Int. 49, 2708-2710 (2010).
