The Sustainability team plays a vital role in realizing this new strategy and we are scaling up our team.

Who we’re looking for
We are looking for an experienced Sustainability – Environmental Specialist to play a key role to accelerate sustainability within Topsoe. You will be responsible for further embedding the sustainability/environmental agenda through our value chain, with a focus on circular economy, decarbonization and biodiversity/ecosystem services. You will be coordinating inputs from many parts of the organization using indirect people skills and enthusiasm, to move things forward. You will drive, influence, and develop skills within our organization, to position Topsoe as a sustainability leader.

You will join Global Sustainability - a small, specialized team of five people, in the Global Sustainability and Public Affairs unit. Our team is a center of excellence setting direction and offering expertise to the organization, while raising our sustainability profile across the business. We are based in our headquarters in Lyngby, Denmark.

What you’ll bring

Soft and hard skills:

  • Lead and coordinate material environmental topics aligned with the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD)
  • Develop Topsoe’s circular economy roadmap, maintain our decarbonization roadmap towards net-zero in 2040, while maturing our work with biodiversity and ecosystem services  
  • Define and maintain corporate sustainability strategy, standards, targets and programs for environmental improvements through our value chain, with our internal Global Environmental function and external stakeholders
  • Support the sustainable value propositioning of Topsoe’s products & solutions towards customers and society at large, with the subject matter experts within Topsoe
  • Work closely with finance to contribute to the combined annual and sustainability report
  • Continually improving ESG data quality in close collaboration with all functions, including global HSSEQ, global production, global commercial and R&D 
  • Respond to platforms such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)
  • Stay up to date with external developments such as new standards within e.g. circular economy, GHG accounting and evolving climate-related policies and trends, as well as best practices - synthesize and integrate in strategic planning 

Experience:

  • An experienced, passionate sustainability/environmental specialist
  • Strong in communication and negotiation skills 
  • Experienced in project management and self-motivated 
  • Strong in building relationships and joint efforts across an organization undergoing rapid and transformational change 
  • Of a commercial and global mindset in driving results with multiple stakeholders in a multi-cultural environment
  • An executer with business insight and customer focus
  • Strategic and analytical in mindset and demonstrate a high level of initiative

Qualifications:

  • You hold a relevant academic degree within sustainability, environmental or chemical engineering 
  • We expect you to have at least 5 years relevant experience from the private sector or consultancy
  • Experience in strategy development, change management, project management and indirect leadership of project stakeholders
  • Well-versed in emerging circular economy and climate change disclosure requirements 
  • Experience in life cycle thinking and strategically implementing findings from life cycle assessments (LCA) within the commercial environment.  Experience in developing LCA’s is an advantage 
  • Knowledge of environmental regulation, ISO standards and non-financial data management systems e.g. SAP, is an advantage
  • Having experience from a highly specialized science-based company within the chemical or manufacturing industry would be advantageous
  • Fluency in English – both oral and written
