ST-201R

Sulfur removal catalyst

ST-201R is a prereduced copper-based sulfur guard catalyst.

Application

Installing the ST-201R as a bottom layer in the final sulfur absorption reactor eliminates all risk of sulfur breakthroughs. With its large surface area and copper and zinc oxide active sites , it can be used with hydrocarbon feedstocks and other streams, removing H2S and any organic sulfur compounds that pass through the conventional desulfurization section. At low temperatures, your hydrogenation catalyst may not convert all organic sulfur compounds into hydrogen sulfide. While mercaptans and disulfides, for example, are more easily hydrogenated, mono sulfides and thiophenes are less reactive and cannot be fully absorbed by the zinc oxide. The ST-201R solves the problem by ensuring complete purification at the end of the process. Conventional hydrogenation catalysts require a steady level of sulfur content to maintain their activity. When organic sulfur contents fluctuate or rise, sulfur breakthroughs can result and necessitate a guard such as the ST-201R. Sulfur breakthroughs can also occur if your hydrocarbon feed contains carbon dioxide, either as a native constituent of natural gas or as part of the hydrogen recycle stream in methanol plants. When the CO2 reacts with hydrogen, steam is formed, the equilibrium concentration of H2S over the zinc oxide absorbent is increased, and sulfur removal suffers. The ST-201 can compensate for equilibrium sulfur and ensure complete purification.

Prereduced for faster activation

ST-201R is a prereduced sulfur guard catalyst produced through carefully controlled reduction of ST-201 and skin passivated to ensure safe handling. The use of ST-201R significantly reduces the time required for catalyst activation, thereby minimizing plant downtime.
