Upscaling key Power-to-X SOEC electrolysis solutions
The project "Upscaling key Power-to-X SOEC electrolysis solutions (SOEC upscale)" aims to optimize the production processes associated with the manufacture of the electrolysis technology, called Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell (SOEC), which can operate with a much higher efficiency than conventional electrolysis technologies. Compared to conventional electrolysis technologies, with the SOEC electrolysis technology it is possible to produce 1 gigawatt of green hydrogen with a 30 percent lower consumption of renewable energy. Maturation and scaling of the SOEC electrolysis technology thus contributes to reducing the investment costs and energy costs associated with large-scale electrolysis in Denmark.
With the REACT-EU grant, we will be able to optimize the production processes and reduce the investment and energy costs associated with the SOEC electrolysis technology to a level where the our board will be able to commit to investing DKK 1.7 billion. DKK in a factory for the production of electrolyzers with SOEC technology.
The pilot production facility is expected to be located in Central Jutland and will thus ensure that SOEC production is anchored in Denmark. The activities in the present project will reduce the risk associated with the scaling and establishment of the factory, which is why the project is crucial for the realization of the factory. Based on the production of electrolyzers, it is expected to contribute an installed electrolysis capacity of 4 GW by 2030, which has the potential to reduce emissions by 16.4 MtCO2e and create more than 200 jobs.
