    Power & utilities industry

    Energy demand is surging.

But at the same time, the power and utilities industry is under pressure to decarbonize. Our technologies play a vital role in preserving and maximizing the use of the power produced by the world’s expanding renewables energy grid – enabling bankable ventures that meet increasingly stringent emissions standards.

The European Union, which leads the world in phasing out fossil fuels, still relies on carbon-emitting sources for a third of its electricity generation.¹ In the US, fossil fuels account for around 60%.²

Not surprisingly, the industry is in a hurry to decarbonize. As a leading force in applying decarbonization technologies readily and at scale, it is powering rapid growth in global renewable energy capacity. The share of renewables in the electricity sector is expected to rise from 30% in 2023 to 46% by 2030.³

Our Power-to-X technologies allow renewable energy surplus to be converted into energy carriers, such as green hydrogen and its derivatives, and subsequently stored for later use and transported to areas where it’s needed. The same technologies also offer demand-side flexibility, enabling the use of excess renewable energy that would otherwise go to waste.

    Adressing your needs

Green hydrogen holds immense potential for the energy industry as a sustainable energy carrier. But scaling up its production still has significant challenges to overcome, especially when it comes to cost and infrastructure. Our high-performing Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Cell (SOEC) technology is a ready-for-market solution that enables large-scale production of green hydrogen using renewable electricity.

We have constructed the EU’s first industrial-scale SOEC manufacturing facility in Denmark, which will produce cutting-edge SOEC stacks, driving Europe’s green hydrogen goals and reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 7.5 million tonnes over the next decade compared to conventional hydrogen production methods.

Additionally, blue hydrogen produced from natural gas resources and achieved through carbon capture and storage technology, can be used to store and transport energy. We offer a range of technologies for producing blue hydrogen, all with incredibly low carbon intensity. It can also be used in gas turbines to produce electricity, leading to a greatly reduced carbon footprint for power plants compared with those using carbon-intensive grey hydrogen.
