Principal IT System Engineer – Linux, Automation, AI and Data Platforms
Role and impact
As a Principal IT System Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and operating robust IT infrastructure, AI environments, and data platforms that support mission-critical operations. You will help shape and maintain Linux-based environments with a strong focus on automation, scalability, security, and reliability.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will drive improvements in deployment processes, observability, workload orchestration, and platform capabilities that support advanced analytics and AI. Your work will have a direct impact on the efficiency, stability, and future readiness of our data and AI platforms.
Key responsibilities
•    Architect and maintain Linux-based infrastructure and automation pipelines
•    Develop and deploy containerized services, AI environments, and data platform components
•    Implement monitoring, logging, and observability solutions to support proactive operations
•    Orchestrate workload scheduling and integrate data pipelines across systems
•    Support platform capabilities that enable advanced analytics, AI, and data-driven solutions
•    Contribute to secure, scalable, and maintainable platform operations in on-premises and hybrid environments
•    Mentor team members and help foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
What you will bring
You have a strong educational background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field or equivalent hands-on experience. You have worked as a System Engineer, System Developer, Data Engineer, or in a similar role, and you are comfortable operating in Linux-based on-premises or hybrid environments.
You bring solid technical experience in several of the following areas:
•    Advanced Linux system administration, preferably Ubuntu Server
•    Shell scripting, especially Ansible, Bash, and Python for automation and tooling
•    Solid understanding of the Ceph storage platform, especially its distributed architecture, data placement, and failure recovery behavior
•    Building command-line tools and backend services
•    Docker, including Dockerfiles, container management, and basic container security
•    Configuration management and deployment with Ansible
•    Git and GitLab, including CI/CD pipeline definition and maintenance
•    Monitoring and observability tools such as Zabbix, Prometheus, Loki, and Grafana
•    Instrumentation of services for metrics, logging, and operational insight
•    Relational and time-series databases such as PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB
•    Workload orchestration with Slurm or similar technologies
•    Data pipelines and system integrations
•    Flow-based integration tools such as Node-RED, including version-controlled deployment of flows
Experience supporting AI workloads, platform automation, or infrastructure for advanced analytics will be considered a strong advantage.
