Prereduced methanation catalyst
Prereduced methanation catalyst for conversion of carbon oxides to methane.
PK-7R is used for conversion of carbon oxides to methane in ammonia plants, hydrogen plants and SNG plants. PK-7R is prereduced and can operate continuously at temperatures as low as 190°C / 375°F and as high as 430°C/810°F.
High activity and low pressure drop
Topsoe’s PK-7R is a highly active, prereduced methanation catalyst designed to operate continuously both at low temperature 190°C and at temperatures as high as 430°C (810°F). The superior activity and ability of PK-7R to operate at low temperatures are a result of Topsoe’s optimized catalyst production process and prereduction technology. PK-7R is reduced in our catalyst manufacturing plant under carefully controlled conditions, which cannot be reproduced in industrial plants and which result in a substantially higher nickel surface area that is maintained over the entire operating lifetime. There is no special procedure required to activate the catalyst. The catalyst is simply exposed to process gas at normal operating conditions, and methanation begins immediately. A benefit of operating at lower temperatures is a savings in energy consumption. With the ring-shaped PK-7R catalyst, a 50% reduction in pressure drop is achieved relative to the conventional spherical or cylindrical methanation catalysts. An additional advantage of the ring shape is a higher catalyst activity due to the higher ratio of external surface to volume.
