Nitrous oxide removal | Nitric acid

Reducing N2O emissions from nitric acid units is a cost-effective way to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The Topsoe tertiary process then raises the cost-effectiveness bar even higher by using TertiNOx™ to help you save money, while reducing N2O emissions by as much as 99%. In addition, TertiNOx™ is highly active for NOx removal. It will ensure compliance with NOx regulations while removing N2O.

When deployed in the tail gas treating unit, TertiNOx™ will help you achieve significant savings from the market for CO2 equivalents. At the same time, your nitric acid operations will benefit from:

  • Low pressure drop
  • Combined N2O and NOx removal
  • Higher throughput
  • Larger volumes of steam
  • More effective expander duty

Another big practical benefit is that you can install the Topsoe monolith solution in your existing reactor, or switch to a smaller, simpler reactor design.

A unique advantage to the Topsoe monolith is its low pressure drop, which enables you to use a polisher setup combined with secondary N2O abatement.

Secondary N2O abatement normally has a maximum efficiency of 80%, leaving behind significant N2O emissions – with an associated CO2 price. This is why the Topsoe TertiNOx™ solution can be used as an N2O polisher to reduce N2O emissions even further, which also reduces your costs for CO2 equivalents. An advantage to all nitric acid plants operating with secondary N2O abatement.
