Hydrotreating | Co-processing for diesel hydrotreating

The first and simple step on your renewable diesel journey

Co-processing provides an easy way for refineries to start their renewable journey. By replacing even low amounts of fossil feedstock with renewable feedstock, your refinery can produce renewable fuel – and take the first step towards becoming a biorefinery.

How does it work?

Renewable feedstock can be introduced directly into your diesel hydrotreater with your fossil feed. The end-product will be a combination of renewable and fossil diesel. The renewable propane and methane will be released through the off-gases.

In most cases, up to 10% renewable feedstock can be added with limited or no equipment modifications. We do, however recommended installing a selective renewable grading and hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) catalyst for maximum yield and contaminant pick-up capacity.

For co-processing with more than 10% renewable feedstock, a revamp may be required, but this solution is still faster and with lower CAPEX than a grassroot unit.

Benefits of choosing renewable co-processing in your diesel hydrotreater for production of renewable fuel

  • Limited or no revamp of plant required

  • Renewable grading and HDO catalyst can be included fast, e.g., by next turn-around or even sooner by skimming

  • It’s a low CAPEX solution

  • Easy implementation – no need to wait for 100% renewable grassroot unit

  • You can choose your own co-processing starting point  co-processing for diesel flow diagram
