Safety operation is especially important: if a process isn't running, it's a debit not an asset. The Topsoe Academy Course, Hydrocracker Safety, provides in-depth discussions of safety during all aspects of operation: catalyst loading, startup, normal operation, shutdowns, and emergencies. Numerous industry examples are described. These provide important lessons on how to prevent such incidents in your facilities.
The course begins with safety-centric chemistry and thermodynamics. The section on heat management addresses ways to control temperatures during process upsets. Special attention is given to loss of containment, fouling in heat exchangers, salt deposition and salt-induced corrosion, loss of wash water, and temperature excursion interlocks. "Trick of the trade" includes quench-ahead to control wetting exotherms during startup and quench override to mitigate impending temperature excursions before they become significant.
Prerequisites: We strongly recommend taking the Hydrocracking in Petroleum Refining course before taking the Hydrocracker Safety course.
The duration of the course is 1 day (8 hours incl. breaks)
